How GPR Company Reduced a Complex Assembly into a One-Line Purchase

How GPR Company Reduced a Complex Assembly into a One-Line Purchase

At GPR Company, we constantly seek ways to simplify processes and add value for our customers. One of our most impactful collaborations involved reducing complex assemblies into one-line purchases for a major semiconductor manufacturer.

Allow us to walk through how our approach transformed this customer’s workflow:

Our Proposition: From Multiple Components to a Singular Assembly

Our journey started with a longstanding customer in the semiconductor sector for whom we manufactured various components for custom vacuum chambers, including doors, hinges, and other intricate parts. Through our collaboration in their DFM process, we realized that many of the parts we produced were assembled shortly after delivery.

Recognizing an opportunity to streamline this process, we approached our customer’s engineering team with an idea: instead of receiving multiple separate components, why not let GPR Company deliver a fully assembled product? We offered to:

  • Continue manufacturing the parts that were already in our scope.
  • Source additional components from their existing vendor base.
  • Assemble everything into a single unit right here in our Fairfield, NJ facilities.

As a result, our customer would consolidate their bill of materials into a one-line purchase, saving paperwork, complexity, and (most importantly) time.

How Our One-Line Assembly Model Works

assemblyWe piloted this model with a single part, and when it was successful, we adopted it on a broader scale. Here’s how this process unfolds:

Step 1: Collaboration During Design

To start, our customer shares their bill of materials, including all components and specifications. Our team reviews the BOM, breaking it into individual components to proceed with the next steps.

Step 2: Manufacturing and Sourcing Components

The GPR Company manufactures components in-house where applicable and sources parts from trusted vendors that adhere to our rigorous quality standards.

Step 3: Assembly and Quality Control

Our team assembles the components in-house, performing thorough inspections at each stage to ensure precision and consistency. This eliminates redundant inspections at our customer’s facility, saving them time and resources.

Step 4: One-Line Delivery

We deliver the final part as a single line item, significantly simplifying our customer’s procurement, inventory, and assembly processes.

How Our Customers Benefit from Our One-Line Purchase Model

Ease of Procurement

Consolidating numerous components into a single purchase reduces vendor management, paperwork, and overall effort. This customer no longer needs to issue multiple purchase orders or manage complex BOMs internally—our team has it all under control.

Cost Savings

In our field, time is money. When GPR handles the manufacturing and assembly processes, we can effectively reduce redundant handling and inspection steps, translating into time (and therefore cost) savings. Additionally, our customer also avoids the expense that comes with carrying excess inventory, as the GPR team manages subcomponent stock.

Inventory Management Simplified

Inventory management can be a challenge for assemblies with numerous components. With the one-line model, GPR tracks and holds inventory for subcomponents, streamlining our customer’s operations.

Faster Production Timelines

By delivering a complete assembly that’s ready for immediate use, GPR Company helps customers accelerate their time-to-assembly.
