How GPR Company Ensures Quality and Compliance with Our Rigorous Vacuum Chamber Testing

At GPR Company, we’ve spent decades perfecting not only how we manufacture custom vacuum chambers, but also how we validate their integrity and performance. We understand the mission-critical nature of the components we produce for the industries we serve, from life science and industrial applications to semiconductor equipment manufacturing. That’s why our in-house vacuum chamber testing capabilities go above and beyond in ensuring optimal quality for our customers.

In-House Testing for Uncompromised Quality

GPR has made substantial investments in specialized equipment for vacuum chamber testing. Our facility features multiple mass spectrometers for helium leak detection, as well as CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) inspection and OGP visual inspection systems. These tools are not only used for testing final assemblies, but are also integrated into our quality control process at every stage.

  • First Article Inspection: Vacuum chambers begin with FAI to verify dimensional accuracy against the drawing.
  • Post-Fabrication Inspection: Welded assemblies are inspected again after fabrication to ensure precision.
  • Chamber Sealing: Once assembled, the chamber is sealed using either actual components or blank-offs.
  • Helium Leak Testing: At least two rounds of helium leak testing are performed using a mass spectrometer to confirm vacuum integrity.
  • Documentation: Every test is thoroughly documented, and each welded vacuum component is serialized and logged for complete traceability.

Ensuring Proper Alignment of Flanges, Ports, and Other Intersection Points

In vacuum chamber manufacturing services, the placement of flanges and process ports is absolutely critical. Many chambers we manufacture must meet extremely tight tolerances for flange orientation and alignment, particularly when lasers or sensors need to travel through specific focal points in space. These are not standard features; they require next-level machining and engineering expertise.

Our team strategically aligns all flanges relative to exact theoretical intersection points. We’ve produced vacuum chambers where flanges must be mounted at complex angles with tolerances tighter than the industry standard. In one recent example, a customer required multiple flanges to align perfectly so that a laser could pass through the chamber unimpeded. Our experienced machinists and inspectors ensured those angular relationships were not just within spec, but better than required.

We Do It All, from Simple Chambers to Complex Assemblies

GPR’s capabilities span from building basic chambers to assembling full turnkey assemblies complete with frames, casters, doors, and hinges. As a trusted partner in custom manufacturing, we take the burden off our customers by delivering fully tested, ready-to-install solutions. Instead of sourcing individual components from multiple vendors and performing intricate assemblies in-house, customers receive components and assemblies that are fully verified and documented.

We’ve even gone so far as to purchase components from our customers’ preferred suppliers and incorporate them into our builds to ensure seamless assembly. This approach reduces inspection points, minimizes paperwork, and streamlines the entire supply chain. It’s truly a testament to our customer-first mentality and full-service contract manufacturing solutions.

Surface Treatments and Specialized Testing

Some custom fabrication solutions come with extra challenges, such as plating thickness. Recently, GPR manufactured a series of aluminum vacuum chambers that required hard coating with extremely tight tolerances. We applied eddy-current testing to certify the plating was within spec, reinforcing our commitment to delivering precise, compliant results.

Whether it’s electropolishing, plating, or other outside processes, our team manages the details and ensures each part is tested before it leaves our facility. This attention to detail makes GPR a leader in the manufacturing and testing of vacuum chamber components and assemblies.
